“The Monster Duchess and Contract Princess” is one of my favourite manhwa about the protagonist with a dark backstory. The story has a clear western setting and is basically revolving around the protagonist’s way of overcoming her struggle and escaping from her family who are desperate to kill her at all cost for the power she possesses ‘Darkness’.
Well compared to most of the Manhwas the female protagonist, though being born as a legitimate child was treated as an illegitimate child and was under constant physical and psychological abuse. The female protagonist gets help from ‘The Monster Duchess’ to crush her family at all costs. A pretty good example of a tragic story with a happy ever after ending.

Synopsis – Spoiler Alert!
The series revolves around the female protagonist who longed for a loving family but in return got a family which wants her dead so their second daughter can have the so-called power of ‘Darkness’. Even the beasts won’t hurt their kin, I wonder what her family should be called.
The main characters of the story are actual children in their mid to late teens. Some might find this a bit unappealing but I think this is like a breath of fresh air. Her childish innocence and her character sketch was also a great plot point for some of the story's progression.
The female lead goes through a lot of struggles like noble trials, priest selection, almost getting burnt down alive, being stabbed in the back by trusted persons, and a lot more. But none of the events made her fall down but instead made her
About the Book:
This manga offers a new turn on this genre that not a lot of other people are exploring. Its very plot is so heavy that it can cause one to tear up easily. Might as well be similar to the typical “Cinderella” type but her past was far more tragic. I don't really have any complaints about this story at all because it is one of the ‘deviants’ of the others.
Themes Involved:
The main theme of this manhwa is the Revenge plot but it also has a strong emotional content that can make one’s heart cry. Though it’s a revenge plot, the romance between the main leads and the love and affection she received from her new family was also well portrayed.

The Bottom Line
In conclusion, the overall manhwa is really well set. The illustrations are well organised and there is something about the art that makes it feel like the characters are living alongside us.
Aside from the storyline, the moulding of the characters and events are well organised and the plot twists make things much spicier. The story may start off with the sad and pitiful female lead who was almost killed by her own family and ends in a way where she found a loving family and the love of her life.
