"I wonder why all my feelings work against me, I really wonder why…" - Kuran Kaname
“Vampire Knight '' is one of my favourite manga in the vampire and high school genre. The story revolves around ‘Yuki’ who is the main protagonist. She is a high school student but the high school she goes to is no ordinary high school but a school where vampires and humans coexist.

Synopsis – Spoiler Alert!
As much as I wish to spoil the story for you guys, I want you guys to go and have a look at the manga first rather than watching the anime. Kaname Kuran was a Pureblood vampire. He was also the Head of the Kuran family, one of the seven remaining Pureblood families who was also one of the progenitors of the Vampires.
Kaname is the first Kuran, giving him an estimated age of 10,000 years old. Kaname Kuran was raised as Haruka and Juri's son after being reawakened by Rido Kuran, who used the Kuran's first child as a sacrifice, making him Yuki's brother and ancestor and fiancé and he loved Yuki to an extent where he would sacrifice everything just to see her smile.
Due to many unpleasant circumstances, Kaname has to part his way with Yuki but he always keeps an eye out for her. As days went by the story progressed into the part of the Vampire society. Wanna know more? Watch the anime…
About the Author
Matsuri Hino is a Japanese manga artist born in Sapporo, Hokkaidō, a peaceful place with a long history. She made her professional debut in the September 10, 1995 issue of LaLa DX with the one-shot title Ko no Yume ga Same Tara ( also known as When This Dream is Over). Matsuri is known for her manga series Vampire Knight, which was made into an anime series and later made a huge hit.
About the Anime
Vampire Knight was adapted from Manga to anime into a thirteen-episode anime television series by Studio Deen, which was broadcast on TV Tokyo from April 8 to July 1, 2008. A second season, Vampire Knight Guilty, was broadcast from October 7 to December 30, 2008. These two anime seasons got a lot of attention and even a lite novel was created for this anime.
The series uses four pieces of theme music which literally give off the mysterious vibe one can expect from a vampire theme. The opening themes of both the first and second season are performed by the duo, with "Futatsu no Kodō to Akai Tsumi" as the opening for the first season, and "Rinne Rondo" as the opening for the second season.
Kanon Wakeshima performed the first season-ending theme, "Still Doll '', which is still a song which gives goosebumps and also the second season's ending theme "Suna no Oshiro ''. The soundtrack is composed by Takefumi Haketa and consists of 30 tracks which include the opening theme, background soundtracks and ending theme. Vampire Knight was made available for streaming on online platforms such as Hulu, Netflix, and Crunchyroll.
Themes Involved
The main theme of this anime is high school romance and action but it doesn’t stop there, it contains a lot of mystery revealing, coming of age, supernatural elements and a lot more.
Famous Quotes
“Love, an emotion so strong that you would give up everything. To just feel it once, to know that you are a part of something special. To know that you can feel what really is, to know, to feel, to love”- Zero Kiryu
“The world is dyed with the colour of blood. It will never go back to the way it was before” - Yuki
“What’s beautiful is not the world, but your beautiful eyes which embrace it” - Kaname Kuran
The Bottom Line
In conclusion, the overall anime is really beautiful and well set. The story may not be the one you are looking for but trust me you won’t regret watching it.
My rating for the manga is 4.9 on 5
