Hogwarts is the place where Harry Potter’s journey to witchcraft started. This series was written by J.k Rowling. There are many untold and mysterious behind Hogwarts which will be disclosed here. So stay glued cause will we dive into Hogwarts castle mysteriously.
1. The Beginning Of The School Year Is Always In September
No matter what day or week it falls on, the school year
always begins on September 1st. Fun fact- Harry started at the school in 1991,
and his first day at Hogwarts was a Sunday. Do you know? The exact date the
castle was built is unknown, but it is said that Hogwarts was founded sometime
in the late 10th century because there are multiple references in the books to
the school being over 1,000 years old. According to the book, the 10th century
wasn't a safe time for witches and wizards, so Godric Gryffindor, Rowena
Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin founded the school and
concealed it from the Muggles who were persecuting them.
2. Motto- “Never Tickle A Sleeping Dragon”
In a 2005 press conference, Rowling said she wanted an
"entirely practical piece of advice for the Hogwarts school motto." If
you are too harry potter lover like me and also an amazing observer then you
will see that The Hogwarts crest
features a large "H" surrounded by the animal symbols of the four
houses. Which are the Gryffindor lion, the Ravenclaw eagle, the Hufflepuff
badger, and the Slytherin snake. The bottom of the crest also has the school
motto in Latin, "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus," which translates
to "Never tickle a sleeping dragon."
3. 7 Courses For 1st Year
Do you know? Rowling originally included Divination,
Alchemy, and a course called Beasts on the mandatory first-year list. There
were also a few course name changes in her earlier drafts. Herbology was called
Herbalism and Transfiguration was called Transfiguration/Metamorphosis. The 7
courses for the first year are:
Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defence
Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy, and Herbology. In the second year, students
can choose at least two more classes to add to their schedule. The following
courses are Arithmancy, Muggle Studies, Divination, Study of Ancient Runes, or
Care of Magical Creatures.
4. How Many Towers Are There At Hogwarts?
The castle of Hogwarts has 12 main towers and around 12
small towers. The tallest tower at Hogwarts castle is the Astronomy tower. The
Dark Tower is the most mysterious of them all due to its usage, or lack of. It
is the least visited due to its location on the seventh-floor landing. The Dark
Tower is made from rugged stone and even has its prison at the top. The prison
consists of a stone bench and shackles.
5. Born Baby In Hogwarts
Every born baby who has magic is enrolled in Hogwarts when
they are born. There isn’t a certain age. When a witch, wizard, or child with
magical ability is born, they are automatically enrolled on the register to
attend Hogwarts. There is a magical quill called the quill of acceptance. There
is a detector in Hogwarts that detects when a magical child is born and writes
their name in the book of admittance. The book was placed in a small tower by
the founders, and it has never been touched by a human since. On the child’s
11th birthday, a staff member or an owl messenger is sent to the student with
an invitation to come to Hogwarts. o wizard has ever reportedly seen the book
in action, and it has been the only method of enrolment the school has used.
6. Not Every Student Gets An Acceptance Letter
Muggle-born witches and wizards get notified in a slightly
different way. Instead of getting a letter through the owl post, the incoming
students get a visit from a staff member, who explains what's going on and
helps them prepare for the school year. the fictional school was voted 36th,
receiving high marks in "atmosphere" and "discipline. Do you
know who covers the tuition fees? The Ministry of Magic covers the cost of all
magical education.
7. The Electronic Device At Hogwarts
Do you know why we don’t see any wizards using mobile
phones, computers, or any electrical device at Hogwarts? because of the amount
of interference caused by magic. Many electrical devices would not work at
Hogwarts or in many densely inhabited areas of the wizarding world because of
this. The high levels of magic make muggle devices go wild. However, wizard
radios do work at Hogwarts because they are a magical imitation of muggle radios.
There are no other magical imitations of electronic devices.
8. Magical Steps In Hogwarts
There are 142 staircases in Hogwarts leading to dungeons,
towers, dormitories, classrooms, and mystery places. Not a single person in the
wizarding world knows everything about Hogwarts, and this includes where some
of the staircases lead. The most famous staircase is the Grand staircase which
is seen regularly in the movies as it is the only staircase that gives access
to all seven floors. The Grand staircase has a mind of its own and will
sometimes trick students with false steps, meaning they sink through them. Percy
Weasley advises the first years in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone," the students have to be alert while walking to their classes
because the staircases like to change position and vanish.
9. When Does The Second War End In Hogwarts?
The battle is known as “The Battle of Hogwarts”, which took
place in 1998, this was the end of a major war. Sadly during the battle, much
of the castle was destroyed. However, Hogwarts has its powers and could
regenerate and heal itself. over a short time, the building was restored and
was able to remain open.
