7 Healthy Drinks for Weight Loss

Homemade healthy drinks or smoothies can act as catalysts when it comes to shedding weight. They have to be paired with a healthy lifestyle and replace other unhealthy drinks from the diet for example carbonated and sugary drinks. These drinks not only increase immunity and help in weight loss but also increase the fluid content of the body.

Below are some drinks that can help you lose weight and live a healthy life.

  1. Green tea: green tea is one of the most effective drinks when it comes to weight loss. It is also packed with antioxidants and other powerful nutrients. A review of 14 studies found that people who drank high-concentration green tea for 12 weeks lost an average of 0.44 to 7.7 pounds (0.2 to 3.5 kg) more than those who did not drink green tea. Green tea also contains caffeine that helps in boosting energy levels and improve performance while working out.

  2. Apple cider vinegar drinks: although it is a debated issue, the proponents claim that apple cider vinegar has numerous health benefits and can help in weight loss. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, a compound that may stimulate weight loss by decreasing insulin levels, improving metabolism, suppressing appetite and burning fat. However, it should be noted that vinegar is acidic in nature and can cause teeth to erode hence it should be consumed in very fewer quantities and mostly in a diluted form.

  3. Ginger tea: ginger helps greatly in the digestion process. It is also full of antioxidants. It contains herbal properties that can help treat nausea, colds and arthritis.  One study of 10 overweight men found that when they drank 2 grams of ginger powder dissolved in hot water with breakfast, they experienced increased fullness and decreased hunger compared to days when no ginger tea was consumed.

Plus, the study showed that ginger tea increased the thermic effect of food (the number of calories needed to digest and absorb food) by 43 calories.

  1. Vegetable juice: Unlike fruits, vegetable juices help in reducing weight. Low-sodium vegetable juices paired with a low-calorie diet can help in significant weight loss. Besides, it increases our vegetable consumption as well as decreases calorie intake.

Although it should be noted that while making juice, vegetables lose out on a lot of the fibre content, hence, it is best if they are consumed whole.

  1. High protein drinks: intake of more protein implies feeling fuller or satiated for longer periods hence, eating consuming less food. These days there are innumerable protein powders available in the market to choose from and make a healthy drink of choice. A study of 90 overweight adults found that those who consumed 56 grams of whey protein daily for 23 weeks lost 5 pounds (2.3 kg) more fat than a control group who consumed no whey protein but the same number of calories.

  2. Beetroot juice: beet juice can significantly boost performance which is why this is the go-to drink for many athletes. Beets also help in lowering blood pressure levels by dilating the vessels. They are loaded with fibre that can help feeling fuller for longer to promote weight management.

  3. Old-school lemon and honey drink: Lemon and honey water is like a healthy elixir, a powerhouse of nutrients. Several studies claim that this drink helps in burning fat, clears acne and flushes out toxins from the body. Adding one tbsp of honey to one glass of warm water can help boost metabolic activity and burn fat.

End note

The underlying principle behind all these drinks is that they may help in boosting metabolic activity, minimize hunger and provide a feeling of satiety, all of which can help in losing weight. Moreover, these drinks contain antioxidants that have various skin and health benefits.
