Ever wondered how leaders inspire us to believe in what they believe? how they inspire us to follow their vision and, in turn, find our own.
This article will explain how great leaders inspire us.
Introduction
A leader is someone with the ability to coach, guide, and inspire us to follow our dreams and, in the process, help us find our own. Though there are many types of leaders in our communities,
One of which we would always follow is leaders who are visionaries. They are the ones who are clear on why they do what they do. The ones with enough self-drive to achieve whatever purpose they have envisioned for themselves
What Makes Inspiring Leaders Different From Normal People?
People like Steve Jobs, Dr. Martin Luther King, and even Mahatma Gandhi are visionaries who believe in why they do what they do.
All of us think in such a way that we know what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. So, for us, the purpose of our life, job, or relationship is the fuzziest thing. We are aware of what we do, as in we breathe to live, but can anyone say what makes you get out of bed every morning, as in what is the purpose that is driving our existence?
For inspiring leaders, the purpose of what they do is the clearest one. So, we naturally become interested in them. We want to become like them.
Inspiring leaders can be considered people with core value systems who are very intuitive in their ideas.
Many of the leaders are equipped with a gut feeling that they cannot put a finger on. Most of them answer questions about their decision by saying that "it just doesn’t feel right." The belief in their gut feelings has helped many leaders make adept decisions in various situations.
The Goal Is Not To Get Rich.
To Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and Jeffrey Bezos, becoming rich was a result of the purpose that they put into action. They wanted to change and challenge the status quo that existed in our society.
Wanting to be rich and famous can’t get you anywhere, but actions that are driven by a cause and belief system will never let you lose hope. This is what great leaders did: they believed in a grand purpose and worked hard for achieving that purpose.
Believing In Ourselves
Elon Musk is a great example of a visionary; he wants to make a space travel commercial. If someone had told us that they would make a space travel commercials, would you believe them? No, we wouldn’t think of that, would we?
As in how the Wright Brothers changed the course of history by making the first man-powered flight. They wanted to change people's lives. The Wright Brothers had nothing but a bicycle shop to their name when they achieved this feat. But they believed in themselves enough to change the course of history.
Great Leaders Influence Others
There is something known as the "law of diffusion of innovation," according to which people are classified into five groups: the innovators, the early adopters, the early majority, the late majority, and the laggards. The innovators and the early adopters are the people who want to be first. They want to be the ones who can uphold an idea that leaders impart to them. They are the ones who would first believe in an idea, and they are the ones to first follow the leaders. Why do they do it? Because they make intuitive decisions based on how they view the world and how the leaders view the world,
Inspiring leaders need to be able to penetrate the first 18% of the population to be able to convince the rest of it. The 18% are the innovators and early adopters who want to be the first to change the world by believing in the leaders.
Leaders need to impart the values that they hold and their purpose on how they wish to influence the world to 18% of the population to be able to penetrate the minds of the rest of the population. If we talk about or show people what we believe, we will attract those who will believe it. And inspiring leaders and organizations need to attract people who share their beliefs.
People follow leaders not because they have to, but because they want to.
Conclusion
To be an inspiring leader we need to have a purpose for what it is that we want in life. People who lead can inspire others because they are the ones who wouldn’t mind failing but would lose all hope if their beliefs are tarnished. We can all be leaders as in we can hold a position of authority over others but we all cannot inspire people because we don’t know what we want in life.
Only by a clear understanding of our goals and dreams will we be able to influence others.
