History has documented several possessed dolls. Annabelle is
one of the most haunted & creepy dolls and its popularity has increased. It
is one of the famous cases encountered by paranormal investigators &
demonologists Ed & Lorraine Warren. Ed & Lorraine Warren has solved
many paranormal cases, but this doll is one of their most famous cases.
Lorraine in an interview said that this doll is dangerous and responsible for
many deaths.
These investigators get a call to investigate the case and
set out on their mission.
How Did It All Begin?
Two nursing students lived together in an apartment. One of
them was very fascinated with dolls, so her mother gifted her a raggedy Ann
doll for her birthday. She took exemplary care of the doll and even
communicated with it. Not long after, they experienced very strange things in
the house. Every morning while leaving the apartment, she placed the doll in a
particular position on the bed before leaving. When they returned, they found
the doll in different positions and gestures. Sometimes it would even change
rooms. One time they found the doll kneeling, but when they tried to make it
kneel, it fell. Sometimes it leaves letters with 'HELP US’. It would be written
in pencil on parchment paper. But neither pencil nor parchment paper was found
in the apartment.
Annabelle’s Spirit
The nurses learned from someone that a young girl lived on
the same property before the apartment came up. Her name was ‘Annabelle
Higgins’. There is a belief that when a person dies in a tragic incident and
was not ready for it, their spirit remains there. It tries to show its presence
by shaking chairs, moving inanimate objects, etc to get attention. The same
thing was happening here.
Ed, however, suspiciously denies this fact. He says that
Annabelle Higgins was not in the doll. However, essentially an inhuman demonic
spirit was present who tried to show its presence through the doll. The person
who gave this information about Annabelle Higgins was a communicator used by
the entity. The demonic used this communicator to tell lies to nurses.
Ed insisted on calling the priest immediately. When the
priest came in Ed requested him to bless the house & the doll and perform
an exorcism on the doll. Lorraine could sense the demonic presence in the
house. The main aim behind blessing the house was to bring God's power into
that house. The blessing & exorcism ritual was performed successfully and
the house was free from the demons. The Warrens took the doll with them. They
faced many brake failures on their way home until they blessed the doll with
holy water and the demonic was restrained.
Some Other Instances in Which the Demonic Used the Doll
Once when a priest was at Warren's house. He was with Ed
Warren in his office. He saw the doll, picked it up, accused it of being just a
ragged doll that cannot harm, and threw it on a chair. Later while returning to
his rectory, his car brakes failed and he almost met with an accident.
In another instance, there was a cop in Ed’s office. They both were discussing another murder case. The cop didn't look scared as he had seen many crimes. Ed got a call from Lorraine who was upstairs. Before leaving, he warned the cop not to touch anything in the room. Within five minutes Ed heard a loud sound. When he asked the cop about what had happened, the officer just kept mumbling 'The ragged doll is real’.
Throughout history, there have been many haunted dolls such as Robert, Okiku, Mandy, etc. Annabelle is the doll that many have heard of or seen especially in the ‘James Wan movies. It is difficult to believe the fact that these dolls were possessed. Several people believe that the dolls were possessed; others say that spirits cannot possess inanimate objects, but can use them to reveal themselves to them. The ragged Annabelle doll is housed in the occult museum of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
It was moved there
after supposed hauntings in the 1970s. It is kept behind a locked case with a
sign made by Ed that reads “positively do not open”. Whether you believe it or
not, spirits exist and supernatural phenomena happen. Never challenge spirits.
If you try to move a step closer to them, they will move a step closer to you.
Never indulge in such things unless you have prior knowledge and are confident
you won't be scared.
