1. Please tell us about your background and journey.
I am Ragavan - Food, Travel & Lifestyle Blogger based in Chennai & around Tamilnadu. Personally, I like photography & videography as a passion. I also love to taste various types of cuisines (mostly South Indian). So, I created a profile on Instagram “the. dining” 4 years ago & started to post some food-related pictures with detailed descriptions about that stuff & day by day slowly I got about 1000 followers & they came to ask some questions about that location, prices &, etc.
That drives me to continue this blogging. But I am not a full-time blogger. Basically, I am a Mechanical Engg, completed my UG in my native place Dindigul at PSNA CET, and preparing for the Public service commission exams in 2017. So, for my passion for photography & food, I am doing this blogging.
2. What’s your favorite Cuisine & dish?
I mostly prefer “South Indian” cuisine with fully loaded Species. I like Nonveg Meals which contain white rice, nonveg gravies like chicken, mutton & sea foods & also like Seeraga samba biryani (My native specialty) and Dindigul Briyani. I will also prefer “Arabian cuisine” like nonveg Barbecue, Kebab, Mandi rice & much more.
3. Should food blogging be just a passion or can it become a regular career?
I mostly don’t suggest taking it on a regular basis because it does not have regular income & also it has no such regulations. You can use this as content to create videos on Instagram & YouTube, you can prefer YouTube to Instagram because now YouTube has given a “bonus for short videos “ & once your channel is verified then you can get a regular income depending on your video views. But I will not recommend this as a full-time job.
4. Which restaurants/food joints would you recommend to food lovers?
That’s a tough question. But I would recommend based on the city in Tamilnadu
1. Chennai. ( Ganapathi military hotel, Ganesh military hotel for Nonveg meals & dinner)
2. Chennai ( Anifa Briyani - Best biryani place in Chennai with comfortable seating area & car parking)
3. Madurai ( Chandran mess & Sree Janakiram hotel for nonveg meals)
4. DINDIGUL (Siva biryani hotel best Seeraga samba mutton biryani)
5. Thoothukudi (Aandavar Night club for their Poricha Parotta)
6. Theni ( Everest hotel for nonveg meals & signature oil chicken)
7. Dhanushkodi ( paati kadai fish fry)
8. Ramanathapuram (ponnaiya mess for nonveg meals.
9. Ambur (star briyani hotel)
10. Tenkasi ( border kadai parotta)
& there are many more ..!
5. What makes you appreciate a particular dish or a restaurant and talk about it on your blog?
For example, “Ganapathi Military Hotel” I have also mentioned in the best hotels list in Chennai. It is located inside an area called “Choolai”. It is such a small place, with about 15 members seating non AC & it’s a normal mess. But it's been running for more than 40 years. I would recommend their nonveg meals because they serve hot white rice with fresh meats like chicken, mutton, sea foods. I personally like their “mutton brain fry” which is only topped with pepper on a hot pan. Gives an ultimate taste of that price.
6. Is there a dish you particularly associate yourself with?
Yeah, south-style biryani both " Seeraga samba & Basmati rice Biryani ''. I love it and I have it more than three times a week.
7. Which is your favorite book and why?
I don’t read many books on foodstuff. But I am interested in reading about Share markets like “Learn & Earn by Peter Lynch” & “ordinary stocks extraordinary profits by Anand Srinivasan”
