How Does Cinema Shape Reality?

Almost everyone’s childhood is filled with memories of their most memorable movies. Cinema is an art form that plays an elemental role in integrating the visions of a rather exposed world.

The culmination of the brilliance of certain individuals conjures a beautiful visual for the world to experience and endeavor in the form of cinema, a wonderful and thought-provoking yet endearing enigma for everyone.

One could say cinema is one of mankind’s greatest creations, within a completely different context and domain. Lifetimes dedicated to dominating and perfecting sensational art through brutal evolutionary stages of drama, acts, plays, etc., to end up with the most attractive style (filmmaking) as a result.

A one-dimensional view would’ve halted people from a multi-dimensional scene of the entirety, which eventually broke the keyhole and opened the doorways to different versions of the existing world. Furthermore, the creative manifestations also found their way to the people via films.

A deep dive into the realm of filmmaking or cinema as a whole would definitely take light years to end the ever-flowing insights it releases.

An Eye For Everything

Whatever the world goes through can take form via film. Such vast and multi-versal schools of thought are put into play, perhaps brought to life by creative thinkers to enlarge or widen, in a sense, the perspective. While we’ve got several genres and styles, each one has its own set of enjoyers.

The interesting fact is that people watch different kinds of films for quite varied reasons. A large chunk of individuals just watch it for the sake of entertainment, which in itself is a good enough reason.

Certain movies are created just with the tag of being known as ‘popcorn flicks’, like action thrillers, pure action with drama, and so on and so forth. Though the substance in those movies may be vague, with the style being too prominent, they do convey a message in some way or another. And that’s really all that matters.

Films with the depiction of realism, existentialism, and other related concepts are often the most acclaimed ones as they give out rawness. A pull towards the grounds of reality generally provokes the audience, but these also receive a lot of praise.

All in all, there is so much more to cinema than just being seen as a tool for entertainment. Another worthy inclusion is the effort that directors put in–the ones who literally experience the world differently through multiple eyes.

An Art?

Fan fiction, fandoms, and cultist groups. All are given a taste of what goes behind their respective favored flavors. Films about race, sex, religion, and so on go wild in stirring up controversies, but at the same time show the happenings as they are.

There is a lot of turmoil around certain movies, pointing out their unrealistic storylines with over-the-top action sequences, further adding to critics' complaint books. But, considering the path everyone is heading towards, imaginative movies may just be the greatest escape from the underlying rotting era.

Besides, only unreal things can take us to cloud nine. The background score, cinematography, plot, storyline, and most importantly, theme—the pinnacles of movie-making—whether over-exaggerated or not—are certainly extraordinary in their own way, hence creating masterful art.

Evolution Or Devolution?

When films first started out, the characterizations were pretty fresh for everyone, and it took a lot to digest. Since then, a certain agenda and style have been followed up until recent years.

The ‘substances’ in the old movies are being challenged these days, which is leading to some resistance by critics and renowned filmmakers. As the world changes, people also change; as a matter of fact, the world changes only because of people. Agreeably, past movies had more depth and meaning relating to the current happenings.

Many of today’s movies are just bland CGI fests, with style given more priority than substance. All these kept aside, they still have heart, which makes us care about the characters, just in a different way. The criticisms can only be valid until their (critics) understanding of lifestyle changes.

Therefore, cinema can neither evolve nor devolve, provided the creatives still find a way to mash up their ideas into films with the same taking a varied form.

Conflicting Sides

Like Martin Scorsese, several directors argue about the ‘novelization’ of movies. With technological advancement, complacency also creeps in. Overuse of VFX can affect the thematic framework of the movie weirdly. Realism is often diluted during this process.

All these points mentioned are absolutely true, as filmmakers pump out whatever crap they find interesting to play with the viewers’ outlook. Apart from those, there are thousands of films with so much heart and genuineness—movies many grew up watching and characters they aspired to be like.

These helped create realities and platforms to form inspirational stories. So, they just can’t be deemed unworthy of being cinemas. Blockbuster or not, every film has its own essence, with its own captivating plotlines.

Hence, let’s enjoy the ever-changing definition of cinema, derive meaning from all the films that shed a light of inspiration, and try to look at everything ethereally.
