2. It Follows (2014)
In this 2014 independent horror breakthrough success, Maika Monroe plays a young lady who finds out she has been cursed with a magical energy that will follow her until she transfers it to someone else as a result of her recent sexual behaviour. This was bold and eye-catching, feeling like nothing else available in the American horror market in 2014, and it truly helped to launch the genre that is now known as "elevated horror." Call it what you will, It Follows remains a memorable genre film.

3. The Badabook (2014)
Take advantage of the opportunity to rewatch one of the best horror films of the 2010s while it's still available to streaming users. In her feature film debut, Jennifer Kent plays a woman named Essie Davis who finds it difficult to raise her troubled child by herself following the death of her spouse. Oh, and the boy's room has a real monster.
4. Bone Tomahawk (2015)
After releasing three extremely violent and gruesome films, Dragged Across Concrete, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Bone Tomahawk, S. Craig Zahler has emerged as one of the most controversial directors working today. His slow-burning Western, which stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, and Richard Jenkins as a posse of men who pursue a tribe of aboriginal savages, is still his best work. The last act is dramatic and horrifying. You'll never forget it.

5. Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
Generally speaking, bad horror movie sequels don't do well. There are always exceptions to the rule. This amazing prequel about a couple running a phoney séance business was directed by Gerald's Game. When they include a Ouija board into their performance and unintentionally release a spirit that takes possession of their daughter, their entire world is upended. It was a foreshadowing of things to come from the future creator of Hill House, clever and well-made.

7. Disappear Completely (2022)
