Georgia Sumner - Fashion, Film & Embracing Soft Power in a Tough Industry (British-American Model, Actress, New York City)

"Stillness isn’t the absence of movement — it’s where the next chapter quietly starts to form."

Q. Your Instagram feels like a mood board of bold fashion, dreamy visuals, and raw talent. How do you curate your online presence to reflect your artistic identity?

I think of my Instagram as a visual diary. I’ve always gravitated toward imagery that feels honest but elevated. Whether it’s behind the scenes moments or curated editorials, I want it to reflect all the versions of me: the softness, the edge, the in-between. It’s still a work in progress but I’m having fun with it and not overthinking the outcome as much.

Q. You’ve modeled for iconic designers and starred in indie films. What excites you more: shooting a campaign or stepping into a new character?

A shoot can be powerful when it’s well curated and creative, and that’s when I really love modeling. But acting invites me to unravel and rebuild from the inside out.

I love the emotional aspect of finding a new character. Even if it’s just for an audition, it’s still a chance to act and that feeling always lingers longer. I just love to move people, whether it’s through imagery or through film, it’s the thing that lights me up. Even if it’s just one person, that connection means everything.

Q. Your look is powerful yet ethereal. Do you see fashion as a form of performance? How do your styling choices empower your work as a model and actor?

Absolutely. Fashion is its own language, one that can shift your energy before you even speak. On set or off-duty, what I wear helps me tap into different parts of myself. Some days it’s all about comfort and I’m a complete femme boy. Other days it’s ultra feminine and I lean into figure-hugging looks, heels, and accessories. It’s all a version of me.

Q. From British magazines to New York acting studios, what’s one defining moment where you felt, “Yes, this is who I’m meant to be”?

I still find myself questioning this life and its ebbs and flows. It’s not for the faint-hearted. But I feel most alive and aligned when I’m busy with both. When I’m booked for a week of exciting modeling jobs and then a huge audition from London comes in late on a Friday. I cancel every weekend plan and just go to work. That kind of commitment always gives me a deep sense of purpose.

Q. The entertainment industry can be fiercely competitive. What grounds you when the pressure builds or when roles feel out of reach?

God. Stillness. Friends and family who remind me who I am outside of all this. My dog. Moving my body. Writing - I’ve actually just completed my first short film. Ultimately I’ve learned that stillness isn’t the absence of movement. It’s where the next chapter quietly starts to form. That’s what grounds me.

Q. We see strength, softness, and storytelling in your poses. What’s one photo or role that felt deeply personal to you, and why?

There’s photos from a campaign I did the day after my toughest breakup. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it captured a quiet kind of resilience. On the day I kept having to gather myself between takes and stop the tears from coming, everything felt so raw.

The final images reminded me that vulnerability is strength, and that sometimes that softness tells the loudest story, and gives you some great images.

Q. Looking ahead, what’s a dream project — a director, designer, or story — that would light you up inside and push your creative boundaries?

I love gritty. I want to be pushed into those kinds of roles. A psychological indie with someone like Andrea Arnold or Sofia Coppola, something that explores the interior world of women in a way that’s raw and visceral, would be a dream.

And on the fashion side, something offbeat, like a haunting campaign shot by Tim Walker or a poetic film with Nick Knight. Anything that lets me be a little undone and a little unexpected.
