Kalomira Interview

Kalomira is a Greek-American pop star who first captured hearts on Fame Story and went global at Eurovision 2008 with her hit Secret Combination. Today, she's still lighting up the stage — and social media — with her music, beauty, and personality.

In this fun and honest chat, she shares the stories behind her bold new songs, growing into her confidence, and what really gets her into “Kalomira mode.”

Q. From winning Fame Story to dazzling at Eurovision and returning with bold new music—if you look back at your journey, what’s been your biggest personal or creative transformation?

Looking back, I think my biggest transformation has really been an inner one. Over the years, I’ve grown so much personally, and that’s brought a whole new kind of creative freedom.

I no longer feel the need for outside validation like I might have earlier in my career. Now I create from a place that’s true to who I am today — and that makes it even more exciting to collaborate and explore new ideas.

“Now I create from a place that’s true to who I am today.”

Q. Heartbreaker feels like a power anthem—was there a real-life moment that made you say, ‘Okay, this story needs to be a song’?

Yes, absolutely — there’s always a piece of me in every song I do, and Heartbreaker definitely came from a very real moment of sadness I was going through.

It’s honest, and that’s why I love it so much. The emotion you hear in the song — especially in the chorus — really came from a deep place. Of course, the lyrics are shaped to tell a story and paint a picture, but the feeling behind it is 100% real.

“Pop music should always have room for joy — even when it’s honest.”

Q. Eurovision 2008 made you a household name—what’s one unforgettable behind-the-scenes moment from that experience that fans have never heard about?

Gosh, it’s hard to pick just one because the whole experience was incredible and full of special memories. But one moment that always makes me smile was with Spain’s contestant that year, Rodolfo Chikilicuatre.

I was throwing a party for all the countries, and when Spain came in, we just started dancing and laughing — he was completely in character, so brilliant and so funny.

We had the best time! It was one of those spontaneous moments that really stuck with me.

Q. Your recent songs have a fresh boldness—how have your experiences as a woman, artist, and mother influenced this new creative chapter?

I feel like I’m always growing and evolving, and that naturally comes through in my music. As an artist, I love expressing where I am in life — whether through the lyrics, the mood, or the energy of a song.

But at the same time, I never forget that I’m making pop music, and I always want it to have that fun, carefree vibe — the kind of song where you roll the windows down, turn up the volume, and sing at the top of your lungs!

That balance of honesty and fun is really important to me in this new chapter.

Q. From contestant to coach, you’ve lived both sides of the stage—what’s more nerve-racking: performing live or guiding someone else in the spotlight?

Definitely performing live for judges — that’s a whole different level of pressure! Guiding someone can be nerve-racking too, because they’re really looking to you for direction.

But when you’re the one on stage in the spotlight, it’s a totally different experience. The only way to really grow as a performer is to get out there, do it, learn from your mistakes — and then rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.

And when you think you’ve rehearsed enough — rehearse ten more times! Once you’ve really put in the work, you go back out there with so much more confidence.

“When you think you’ve rehearsed enough — rehearse ten more times!”

Q. You’ve hosted survival shows, music contests, and even done reality TV—if you had to star in a fictional series about your life, what genre would it be: comedy, drama, or musical—and why?

Comedy for sure!

In my life, there’s always something funny or a little crazy happening. I’m definitely someone who always tries to look on the bright side, so the show would absolutely stay fun and positive.

I think that would capture my personality — and my life — the best!

Q. Your glam routines and beauty content have a real spark—what’s your go-to ritual before a big moment, and how does it help you step into ‘Kalomira mode’?

My go-to ritual is definitely moisturizer, moisturizer, moisturizer!

And when it comes to getting into “Kalomira mode” — it’s simple: give me a wig, a little lip gloss, and I’m good to go! For me, it’s all about having fun with it and bringing that energy into the moment.
