Swati Rathi: Style Is About Self-Expression, Not Perfection (Fashion & Beauty Creator, 296K Followers)

Swati Rathi Interview

Swati Rathi

“From a girl who loved dressing up to a Forbes recognised digital creator redefining minimalist fashion.”

Q. Who was Swati before the followers and recognition?

Growing up, I was always the girl who loved experimenting with clothes and posing for endless pictures. Dressing up made me feel confident and expressive. Even during college, I was known for putting effort into how I looked. I might be a little late, but I’d always be well put together.

Fashion was never about trends for me. It was about how wearing something made me feel. Over time, that naturally shaped my belief in keeping things simple, comfortable, and authentic to who I am.

Q. When someone feels they have “nothing to wear,” where should they start?

First, look at the basics you already own, especially a good pair of jeans and a well-fitted white T-shirt. These pieces form the foundation of countless outfits.

Second, add one element that refreshes the look. It could be sneakers in a pop of colour like blue, burgundy, red, or green. Small styling changes can completely transform an outfit without buying anything new.

Q. When did your content shift from passion to purpose?

When I reached 10K followers, something really clicked for me. I realised that people were genuinely resonating with my content and finding value in it.

That’s when my passion started feeling like a responsibility. I became more intentional and consistent with what I shared. Internally, I felt a strong sense of gratitude. Every message of appreciation motivated me to show up better and push myself creatively.

Q. How do you balance fashion content with sustainability?

In 2022 and 2023, I did a lot of haul content. At the time, it felt like the norm. But gradually, I became more aware of how fast fashion impacts the environment.

That awareness changed my approach. I consciously reduced haul videos and shifted my focus toward promoting homegrown brands that are more thoughtful and sustainable. Staying honest with my audience means evolving as I learn and sharing that evolution openly.

Q. What would you say to someone who feels underconfident or compares themselves online?

What we see online is just 1% of someone’s life. Please don’t compare that to your 100%. Take inspiration, not pressure.

Fashion isn’t limited to any body type. Understanding your body simply helps you style yourself better. It's about self-expression, not perfection. When you feel comfortable in what you wear, confidence follows naturally.
