Sheenam Sharma Interview
Q. Your work as a news anchor has earned you a large, devoted audience online. But beyond the anchor people see on screen, how would you describe yourself as a person? Please introduce yourself to our audience.
Honestly, I’m quite different from the person you see on screen. If you meet me in real life, you probably won’t even believe this is the same girl who presents the news with such confidence and seriousness on television.
I’m actually a very simple, easy-going, lazy, and talkative person. The confidence and presentation you see on screen is my professional side, but off camera, I’m just a very normal girl who enjoys being myself without any filter.
Q. You are an anchor, and also make videos on health tips like yoga, healthy lifestyle, etc. You also make mini vlogs for your audience. Apart from these, how did you decide to choose the news anchor profession? Is there any special story behind it?
I honestly feel that my journey to becoming an anchor was almost God-written. Since school, I was always fascinated by the person hosting the event. While everyone watched the performances, I would wait for the anchor to come on stage, announce names, and call the principal and teachers.
Somehow, I was always more attracted to that person on the podium, and eventually, that fascination became my profession. In Class 12, I became the Cultural Activities Captain, which gave me many opportunities to host events. That’s when I realized I genuinely wanted to make a career in anchoring.
After passing Class 12 with a Non-medical stream, I told my family that I wanted to do something related to anchoring. My sister introduced me to Mass Communication and Journalism, and that’s where my journey into television journalism began.
Q. When you decided to become an anchor, what challenges did you face? Did you get support from your family? What was their reaction when you told them about this?
I think my journey would have been very tough without my father’s support. There was no one around us who had become an anchor, but my father always believed in me. My mother was initially hesitant about sending me so far from home, especially to Noida, but my father trusted me completely. He always said, “Jo bhi kaam karo, mann laga kar karo.”
I first started in Chandigarh, and eventually, I moved to Noida and began my journey in the media hub of Noida.
Q. When you started your work as a news anchor, when did people start recognizing you as a professional anchor?
The first recognition came after a few months of joining a Haryana-Himachal based news channel. When I visited my hometown in Himachal, someone at a family wedding recognized me and said, “Beta aapko TV par dekha hamne! Aapne to kamaal kar diya…”
That was the moment I truly realized people knew me as a news anchor. Seeing my parents' friends and relatives appreciate my work made me feel incredibly proud, especially because it brought happiness to my parents.
Q. You also make mini vlogs on different kinds of topics and people also praise your content as a vlogger too. Did you ever think of starting a new journey as a full-time vlogger, or are you satisfied with your anchor job?
Vlogging is something I genuinely enjoy because it allows me to connect with people in a more personal and creative way. However, news anchoring is my passion and my profession.
I'm grateful for where I am today, but I believe I still have a long way to go and many more milestones to achieve in my career. For now, I see vlogging as a complement to my journey, not a replacement. If both can grow together, I believe that's the best balance.
Q. Your hometown is Himachal, and currently you are living in Noida because of work. What are the things you miss the most about your hometown?
I miss the peaceful environment, the beautiful mountains, and most importantly, my family. I also miss authentic Himachali food, especially Dham, Siddu, and many local dishes that I can't easily find in Noida.
Whenever I visit home, it feels like a recharge of my soul.
Q. Looking ahead to the next five years, what is your vision for your personal and professional growth?
Haha... I usually don't disclose my future plans in advance. But one thing I'm sure about is that I want to grab bigger opportunities, strengthen my skills as a news anchor, and grow into a versatile media professional.
Along with TV journalism, I also want to build a strong presence in digital media because I truly believe it's the future.
Q. When you cover a news story, your team goes through several stages before the audience sees the final output on television. What is your favourite moment or part of the process when covering the news?
My favourite part is reporting from the field. As a reporter, it's always exciting to cover a story, especially when I'm going live on TV and the audience is watching in real time.
Even for recorded stories, seeing the final output after all the hard work is very satisfying. I also enjoy interacting with people during field reporting, those small, genuine moments often become the most memorable part of the job.
Q. Apart from work, is there any movie, book, or series that motivates you to work hard? Also, what advice would you give to beginners who want to become a news anchor?
I don't follow any particular movie, book, or series for motivation. I believe real-life experiences and the journeys of successful people inspire me the most.
For beginners, my advice is to keep improving your knowledge and stay updated with current affairs. At the same time, listen to yourself, record your voice, watch your videos, and review them again and again, even ten or twenty times if needed. That's the best way to identify where you need to improve.
