Alexandra Fasulo - Philosophy Of A Great Content Is Creating A Human-Experience, Even From Text On A Webpage (Freelancer, USA)

I believe it's incorporating a sense of emotion, wit, humor, or personalization that makes the writing come to life when reading it. stick to your innate style as a writer and don't let other people's criticisms of your work convince you to 'write in a certain way'

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I'm from a farm in Upstate New York, where I went to a super small high school and rode horses. I went to college in Western NY for Political Science and got a job in the NYS Assembly, figuring that's what I 'should do.'

When I discovered that working in an office wasn't for me, I became an entrepreneur and business owner at age 22, while living in Brooklyn, NY.

2. How did you get into freelancing?

I quit my job at the end of 2015 with no plan. I just knew I couldn't work in an office. I discovered freelancing as a way to make end's meet when I had no other money coming in, and it blossomed into the empire I manage today.

3. How do you deal with writing about things you’re not an expert in?

I decline intense medical, science, and finance topics. But if it's still difficult, I ask the client to provide some information, or I pull up extra resources to get it done.

4. What kind of writing do you do most often?

I most often write blogs or PR articles.

5. How would you go about doing research for a new piece of content?

I require clients to fill out extensive questionnaires. If I still need information after that, I take the topic, Google it, and use accredited sources from top-tier outlets.

6. What’s your philosophy about what makes content great?

I believe it's incorporating a sense of emotion, wit, humor, or personalization that makes the writing come to life when reading it. It's creating a human-experience, even from text on a web page.

7. Did you ever think you will make something next to half a million annually by being a freelance writer?

Not in a million years. I still can't believe it.

8. What is the common misconception people have about what you do?

That I am a scammer and a liar. I have worked every single day for 6-years to have what I have. I am proud of how hard I have worked and want people to know there's nothing being lied about.

9. What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring writers?

I would say stick to your innate style as a writer and don't let other people's criticisms of your work convince you to 'write a certain way'. Write the way you want to write and the right clients for you will come.

10. Which is your favorite book and why?

My most recent favorite books are Big Magic and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***. Both of these books taught me to love myself, my talents, my "business mindset," and my creativity. Society tries to change and mold us so that we are more acceptable for the masses. These books say SCREW that. Be yourself!!
