How Today’s Bangladesh is Falling Prey To the Effects of Climate Change

Population growth poses the gravest threat to the development of the country. This has led to a rise in unemployment among the youth. The cities have become the refuge of people migrating from the villages. This explosion of the population is not sudden but it is impacting our environment brutally.

In this era of 21-century population rise and environmental degradation are one of the sole problems. The condition has become that brutal that now we are left with lots of problems which are becoming fatal day by day.

Gone were the days when there was no pollution, the air was spic and span and water bodies were free of chemical wastes. But with the expanse of population, rising sea level and deteriorating climatic conditions several land areas are now becoming unsuitable for living.

This all condition results in the movement of people from these areas to other areas which make other areas highly dense. Similar is the condition which we are facing. Several cities like Surat, Mumbai etc. are some of India’s highly dense populated areas of India.

Dhaka

Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. This capital city is the centre of the natural govt., trade culture and economy of Bangladesh. During the time of the Mughal Empire Dhaka emerged as a provincial capital and commercial centre of the Mughal Empire.

Dhaka city is famous for its Muslims in Bengal. For the past several years, Bangladesh has been an important of history. This city was decorated by Mughals using beautiful forts, elegant gardens, mosque, tombs etc.

But presently the condition of Bangladesh’s Capital is very brutal. The consistent rise in the population of Dhaka is one of the most alarming conditions. The rise in population not only affects the environment of the area but will also rise in problems of a normal layman.

Presently as per data, Dhaka is among one of the densely populated areas of this world. With a density of 47,400 people per square kilometre, Dhaka remained one the most densely populated city on earth.

Why population is rising?

Dhaka with a population of more than 17 million inhabitants is the fastest growing city in the world, suffering from the biggest population density on the planet. Every day, more than 2 thousand new inhabitants come from all corners of the country.

But why they are migrating? The main reason behind the migration is families are forced to leave their homes and land as a result of the extensive flooding, cyclones and sea levels rising.

Now, this rise in population dynasty has made the condition of Dhaka even worse. The sudden rise in population has posed several environmental as well as economical threats to the nation.

Problems

As the population rises the demand for several goods also shoots up. To fulfil these needs of public industries are set up. Secondly, migrant people to reside in the new area develop slum areas. Slum areas and increasing production not only pose the capital city to insanity but also make it vulnerable to live in.

Moreover, with the expanse of population, people are also not able to avail themselves the basic human facilities like education and health. Instead of all such problems why people are migrating to Dhaka?

The main reason behind it is the hope of opportunities. As per data 35% of the economy of Bangladesh is dependent on Dhaka, hence this lures people. Normally people migrate to the capital city in search and hope of good opportunities and facilities.

But Dhaka rewards the inhabitants with zero facilities, with a bonus of insanity. But what a small city Dhaka can do in this case? The capital city of Bangladesh is now overloaded and the only solution to solve this problem is to relieve it.

Solutions

The population problem is one of the major problems in this world which is posing unlimited challenges to us. But what is the solution to the population problem? The solution is to control the birth ratio. But what can be done about rising population density?

Dhaka is facing the same problem and the only sole solution to it is that migration to this city has to be regulated. Secondly, facilities, as well as opportunities, should be provided in other areas too.

The main reason behind the migration is the lack of facilities in other areas and problems due to cyclones. Hence government should take effective steps to protect these areas; moreover, it should also make facilities available in other areas so that the population can easily be distributed.

High population density has already posed numerous problems to the capital city and now it is high time to control it so that the sanitization of the area and decorum of the area can be maintained well and can make the city a better place to reside in.
