Devesh - In 2015, I Quit My Corporate Career To Travel Around The World (Travel Blogger, India)

I have created this blog for three reasons: for sharing my travel experiences, for fulfilling my travel dreams and to teach others the art of travel blogging.

1. Tell us about your upbringing & journey.

I started my corporate career as a documentary filmmaker in Birmingham, England. But soon, I realised that I wasn’t meant to live a corporate life.

In 2015, I finally quit my corporate career to travel around the world. Almost one year later, in January 2016, this travel blog happened, as a means to find a reason to keep travelling and as a source of income. And since then, I’ve been blogging and travelling full-time.

2. When did you start travelling and how did you decide to start your Instagram page?

I have created this blog for three reasons: for sharing my travel experiences, for fulfilling my travel dreams (as it helps me make money and sustain my travel lifestyle) and to teach others the art of travel blogging.

3. Which is your favourite travel destination in India?

Manali, in Himachal Pradesh, India.

This is where I also run a backpackers hostel named Footloose Camps (Instagram).

Sit back and enjoy the breathtaking terrains of Himachal while our chauffeur takes you through this stunning beauty. Avail Savaari's convenient car rental service in Manali.

4. What place is top of your bucket list?

Ever since I’ve read the book on the Appalachian Trail, written by Bill Bryson, I’m addicted to the idea of completing the mother of all trails, the Appalachian Trail — a whopping 2,184 miles long hike. It is therefore the Appalachian Trail that tops my bucket list.

It passes through 14 US states and takes over 5 months to complete, if you walk almost daily, for most of the hours in the day, and at a decent speed. What makes it even adventurous is the idea of staying disconnected from the real world for all that time as there is no phone network in the area. It must be an amazing bucket list experience!

5. What can't you travel without?

As a full-time content creator, it's my blogging equipment (my camera/drone) that I cannot travel without. Any journey without my blogging gear feels incomplete to me.

6. Do you prefer solo travel or with someone else?

Solo.

7. What is the common misconception people have about travel blogging?

They think the life of bloggers is all sunshine and roses. Of course, we have a good time and we enjoy doing what we do, the fact that there's a lot of hard work associated is something that most people don't realise.

8. Which is your favourite book and why?

Appalachian Trail, written by Bill Bryson, because of the humour and the writing style.

9. What are the best road trips have you taken across the country?

I would like to position my 7 day Romantic Road trail ROAD TRIP (in Germany) as my top favorite. It happened during a blog trip with Germany Tourism. I hired a car from Frankfurt Airport, rode all the way down to Munich exploring some of the most beautiful towns existing on earth.

On the Romantic Road Trail, you will find 30 German towns that not only define Germany’s but entire Europe’s history, art and culture. Some of the towns you will find are as old as 15 b.c, with architectural buildings surviving since the 15th century, or older.

10. What do you think made your content popular?

This one is hard to answer. I think I keep my content very personal while keeping a perfect mix of factual information is what makes my content readable. I also write tips on Blogging, which happens to be a widely read section on my blog.

11. Are you someone who likes to take control of the wheel or stay back whilst enjoying the scenic vistas?

Mix of both, I would say.

Alternatively, I would say...

If we are talking about a 4-wheel drive, I would prefer staying back and enjoying the road.

If we are talking about a motorcycle, I would prefer riding and enjoying the road.

The roads are calling. Book your trip today and avail the best services on your outstation cabs with Savaari - expert driver, sanitized car and unmatched comfort in 2000+ cities in India.

12. How can travelers in India boost local tourism and help uplift the hospitality industry?

Though I think this trend has already begun, people need to understand that the real feel of a place is in exploring the offbeat and visiting places that tourists seldom visit. They need to trust locals and foray.
