Kuntal Ganguly - Food Is the Easiest Way for Me to Connect With People From Various Parts of the World (Food Blogger Based in UK)

Blogging for me is more of a passion than trying to be an influencer. I share my earnest opinion based on my experiences and therefore, I have not faced any major challenges in what I do

Tell us about your upbringing, background, and journey.

I come from a semi-orthodox Bengali family comprising of my parents and my younger brother. I completed my academic career in my hometown and have a Masters' degree in Computer Applications. I have been working as an IT professional since 2015.

My life has taken me places, it has had some highs and some lows, and it has been a good journey so far.

When did you start blogging?

I have been taking photos of near about everything since I got my first cellphone with a camera.

I have a knack for writing and I soon started writing reviews on Zomato, while also creating a web blog where I would review and upload pictures of restaurants.

The web blog did not garner any audience so I created my Instagram account in 2019,  and the @theravenousbong has since continued to share content on Instagram.

What type of content do you enjoy creating more - lifestyle, food, or travel-related?

Food is the easiest way for me to connect with people from various parts of the world. Over the past few years, I have tried many different cuisines and my content, therefore, has been all about food, with a few rare posts on other topics. There are quite a lot of dishes that have been suggested by some of my fellow bloggers, and I am definitely looking forward to trying them out and sharing my opinion.

I have traveled a bit for leisure and the search for new food joints often takes me to new places, so travel is something I want to integrate into my page eventually.

Lifestyle blogging is definitely not for me.

What have been the biggest challenges you have faced in this industry?

Blogging for me is more of a passion than trying to be an influencer. I share my earnest opinion based on my experiences and therefore, I have not faced any major challenges in what I do.

Having said that, since the beginning of the pandemic, a lot of restaurants and eateries have closed, and many are barely surviving. I tried listing a few in my stories, I have shared posts of some, but with the reach of my content reducing drastically over months, I was unable to be of much help.

A few pages contacted me for collaboration but having observed my reduced reach, they backed out and never followed up.

What does your typical day look like?

Weekdays are not very interesting. It begins with a cup of coffee, and then work takes over, punctuated by a heavy brunch and some more coffee in between. The day ends with a light dinner over a movie or some random episodes of a series.

Weekends involve long walks, a visit to the movies, and trying out new restaurants.

Which is your favorite dessert & what makes you appreciate it?

I love desserts of all kinds but, if I have to pick one, it will be a Bengali classic - Gurer Rosogolla.

It is like regular rasgullas, but in this version, the cottage cheese balls are sweetened by soaking them in syrup made from seasonal palm jaggery.  It is nostalgic, reminds me of home no matter where I am and above all, it is absolutely delicious.

Which is your favorite movie/show?

Movie: Dead Poets Society

Show: Friends

Bio:

Hi! I am Kuntal Ganguly from Kolkata, India, currently residing in Edinburgh, UK.

I am a foodie and I always appreciate a sumptuous meal irrespective of the dishes on offer. It is this love of food that made me start my blog - theravenousbong.

I do not consider myself a food critic, or an expert of any sort. For me, food is just an easy medium to bring people across cultures closer and at the end of it all, everyone is happy and content.
